Monday…. back to the grind. A work week ahead and blistering cold temps outside. I figured I should start the week off with a nice bright Monday morning shave.
Up today is CB’s Tonsorial Parlour. I was PIFed this a while ago but was waiting to use it until I got the matching splash. Well, as you can see, there was a small snafu on the order and I ended up with the cousin splash. Luckily they pair well, so I have that going for me. Tonsorial Parlour is an old school barbershop scent. Bergamot, Lavender, Litsea Cubeba, Petitgrain, Citronella, Geranium, Oakmoss. It is bright citrus, subtle florals and a nice powdery finish. If you like citrus and powder, this will be for you. This vegan base is really good, loads easily and gives a really nice protective lather.
The Karve continues to wow me with the quality of shaves I get, but today, the blade let me down. I’ve used Sputnik in the past and don’t recall having negatives on it but today this new blade felt off. The shave felt a touch tuggy and not as comfortable as usual. Needless to say, the blade was one and done today. I guess the Karve can’t save every blade.
The Tonsorium splash is a close cousin to Tonsorial Parlour. A shipping mix up meant this is my matching splash for the shave. (with names so close I expect this has happened to more than one customer). This scent is described as a familiar fougere topped with citrus. Compared to Tonsorial Parlour, this has removed the citronella and added benzoin, coumarin and sandalwood. The rest of the scent notes are the same. I find the citrus toned down, the powdery note much more subtle and the earthiness comes out a bit more. I think I prefer this scent over the soap scent today. This splash is alcohol based but I got no burn at all. It actually had a nice hydrating feel and the touch of menthol was just right to wake me up for the day.
