Boys day today. My lovely wife is off photographing a large dance school today so it is just me and the boy. We are heading out for a sit down lunch and then off to the movies. I figured I’d get a quick SOTD in before hitting the road.
I was in our local Winners yesterday and they had a bunch of Proraso stock on sale. I quite like Proraso creams, and I think it is a great choice for a beginner. Price point is decent and you can find it in most drug stores. While not the slickest soap you will get, it will crush any of the explosive canned goos on the market. If you don’t have a brush you can still use the cream to shave with. If you do have a brush, you can get a good lather with pretty much any water type. This will get a newb off on the right foot for sure. A reminder that since the residual slickness is almost non existent, shaving un-lathered is not recommended. Post shave isn’t anything special either, so I wouldn’t go without a post shave product. But as I said, I’d take this over any can of goo in a heart beat. I also think if a new shaver starts with this they will really appreciate the artisan soaps once they are ready to step up.
I hadn’t come across the blue or white before so when I saw those, I grabbed a tube of each. I opted for the blue today as I have the white pre-shave so I know what the scent is about. I believe the scent notes on this are spice, musk and amber. The scent strength is quite subtle, but it does carry for a while too. I quite like it, I’d say the Proraso Red is my favourite I’ve tried thus far but the Blue was quite nice as well/ This has Aloe and Vitamin E for skin feel in it, but I’d say it is likely more there for marketing as I didn’t see any improvement of the other Proraso creams I’ve tried. Still with a nice scent and adequate performance I was able to get a damn fine 3 pass shave today. A perfect way to start a boys day.
