As the last weekend before my son heads back to school, I’m savouring every moment. It’s a bittersweet time of year, full of the excitement of new beginnings mixed with the nostalgia of summer’s end. With the school year looming, today’s shave felt like the perfect opportunity to pause and enjoy one of my favourite new finds.
Enter House of Mammoth’s “Everett.” This scent has been on my radar since I picked up the sample set at the Maggards meetup earlier this year. After enjoying the sample, I knew I had to get a full set, so as soon as it dropped, I grabbed it from Top of the Chain. The notes are a delightful mix of orange slices, sunshine, and the great outdoors—there’s a dried orange juice vibe in there too, with hints of toasted marshmallow and a light musk. Right from the first lather, the orange comes through bright and natural, almost like you’re peeling a fresh one right there at the sink. There’s a subtle smokiness that adds a bit of depth, and the light musk rounds it out beautifully. It is a very playful and and fun summer scent. If you have used Barrister + Mann Behold the Whatsis, this is in a similar style but, in my humble opinion, it has much better execution. This has an advanced level of perfumery here. It reads youthful, playful and yet, not juvenile. You could wear this fragrance all summer and not seem out of place. Honestly, this might be tops in the Mammoth lineup for me.
But it’s not just the scent that makes “Everett” a standout—its performance is excellent by all metrics. This soap is an absolute joy to work with. Lathering is effortless, almost intuitive, and it doesn’t take much product to get a rich, creamy consistency. The cushion and glide are spot-on, providing a smooth shave that leaves the skin feeling well-protected and nourished. Post-shave, my skin feels soft, hydrated, and ready to take on the day. It’s one of those soaps that just ticks all the boxes. If you don’ have any HoM in your den, I highly recommend pickup up a set. Ben has a lot of approachable scents to try, this being one of them.
Today’s shave just reaffirmed what I already knew—I’ll be reaching for this one a lot, especially while we still have some of this summer heat. Now, I’m off to enjoy the last day of our long weekend, soaking up every bit of summer I can.
