#samplesaturday and today I am firing up a new-to-me razor. I was PIFed this from my friend Shahan and was excited to give it a go. All started off well, but the shave quickly fell apart. I gave the razor a good clean, opened the new package of injector blades and then loaded the razor (with a quick youtube HOWTO). I like the idea of this unique loading system, although I know this would make removing blades between shaves not really an option. I also think this will amp up blade costs and add some extra packaging to the mix. The shave started off feeling great, I really liked the how the razor felt and was getting a really nice shave, but as I continued I noticed the blade slipping. As I rinsed the razor, the blade actually popped out. When I put it back in, I noticed a lot of blade slop as it slipped around in the razor. NOT a good thing. I quickly abandoned ship before finishing the first pass. Disappointing. Am I doing something wrong here? Any thoughts? Luckily I had my Ever Ready 1912 SE close at hand so I was able to finish off the SE shave with no cuts or weepers.
The #samplesaturday soap was another Purely Skinful offering, the Tobacconist. I love the sample pucks of her product. I was able to press this firm soap into a spare tin and will get more than a few shaves with it. Off the puck, I get a subtle, mostly leather scented soap. Once lathered, the tobacco really comes out, which just a hint of the subtle cedar and black pepper. It is a really nice scent, although a touch too tobacco forward for my preferences. Performance on the soap is fantastic as always. The key to her soap line (for me anyways) is blooming the soap, load it, and give it as much water as it can take. The more water you add, the better this soap gets. Once you think you have it dialed in, add more water :p I got a super slick lather, so much so I could barely hold the razor. Post shave feel from her products are fantastic as well.
For the post, I used Black Ship Grooming Captain’s Pipe, another very forward tobacco scent. I don’t get much of the cherry vibe, just full on pipe tobacco. A nice touch of menthol for a really nice chill. I quite liked the performance on the splash, the scent though just isn’t for me.
