Razor: John Clarke & Son Sheffield 3/4″ with custom scales via LatherMeWhiskers
Brush: Aloha Shaving 26mm Cashmere Synthetic
Soap: The Razor Company Unstoppable
I received this soap as a gift in honour of a dear friend who is bravely fighting Mesothelioma, and as a way to raise awareness for the disease on Mesothelioma Awareness Day, September 26th. Unfortunately, due to the face Canada Post often runs at the speed of sloth, it didn’t arrive in time for me to post on the actual day. My apologies for the delay.
Today, rather than focusing on the soap’s performance (which was excellent) or the scent (also very enjoyable), I’d like to take a moment to share some important information about Mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects the lining of the lungs, though it can also appear in the abdomen or around the heart. It is most commonly caused by long-term exposure to asbestos—tiny, harmful fibers that can get trapped in the body when inhaled. Over time, often over decades, this exposure can lead to the development of cancer. Common symptoms include chest pain, difficulty breathing, and fluid buildup around the lungs or abdomen, but it’s typically diagnosed late, making treatment options like surgery or chemotherapy more challenging. Sadly, the prognosis is often difficult.
In honour of my friend Kim, I dedicate this shave to her and have made a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. It’s a small gesture, but one that I hope will contribute to the cause. If you’re able, I’d encourage you to do the same or take a moment to learn more about Mesothelioma through the Canadian Cancer Society’s website. Every bit of awareness and support counts.
Kim, we are all pulling for you. You’re in my thoughts.
