Happy Halloween! While today is all about costumes and candy, my evening will be laser-focused on Game 6 of the World Series, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays. The last time they won it all, I was in Grade 10 — it feels like a lifetime ago. So even though baseball takes center stage tonight, I figured I’d kick off the day with something seasonally spooky.
Hallowed Sky is a set I picked up in 2024, and it’s a standout in my MacDuff’s collection. The scent profile is wild and layered: Rotting Pumpkin Flesh, Decaying Leaves, Aging Wood, Peach, Violet, Black Currant, Vanilla, Coconut, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Vetiver. If you’ve followed my blog, you know I’m all-in on MacDuff’s — and this set is no exception.
It’s a complex blend. Right off the top, I get a creamy-sweet burst of peach, coconut, and vanilla. It’s subtle, but it jumps out on first whiff. As you lather, the pumpkin note starts to emerge, grounded by a woody base of patchouli and vetiver. It’s a fascinating balance — walking the line between sweet gourmand and dark woods. I even catch a hint of cinnamon, though it’s not listed in the notes. The splash tones down the creamy sweetness and leans more into dark woods. They’re not identical, but they complement each other beautifully.
Quick blade detour: A while back, I tried Tiger carbon steel blades — easily the worst I’ve ever used. More recently, I was recommended Tatra Platinum blades and found them excellent. Then I heard Tiger Platinum blades might be the same as Tatras. Curiosity won out, and I had to test them. I’m happy to report they’re nothing like the carbon steel Tigers. I can’t confirm if they’re identical to Tatras, but both platinums have jumped into my top tier. Smooth, consistent shaves — highly recommend giving them a shot.
Performance-wise, MacDuff’s continues to deliver elite-level shave software. Their catalog is stacked with great scents, and this one made for a fantastic Halloween morning shave. Now I’m ready to stake my claim of “Dad Tax” treats and settle in for some Game 6 baseball.
Happy Halloween, Go Jays, and catch you later — J
