#samplesaturday on a Sunday. One day late. I recently received this soap in a pile of samples from a great CWS member. Off the sample, I didn’t get much scent but when it hit the bowl and lathers the scent just jumped of it. This soap is based off a scent developed my the House of Guerlain in the early twentieth century. Lemon, bergamot, petitgrain, and herbs with violet, rose, bay, and amber. A bit floural and a bit spicey, a really nice vintage smell. Performance was on pay with other Barrister and Mann soaps in this base. To me, good, but not great. This isnt a soap I’d pick up for myself, it doesn’t really match my tastes in scent profile, but I’m grateful for the chance to give it a go.
Brush, I used my 3D printed handle with silvertip knot. I love the profile of this handle, I’d really like to get this profile in something with a bit more weight. Maybe once I get more practice on the metal lather I can give that a go.
I was also PIFed this sample balm (along with some other software I will be trying out in the future). Off the container it smelled quite nice. Lavender, Cassia, Copaiba Balsam, Ginger , Black Pepper, Nutmeg and Vetiver. Unfortunately once I used post shave the scent seemed to have lots its punch for me, and was subtle and gone before you know it. It could just be that the strength didn’t hold up against the soap. I will revisit this for sure. The balm itself performed quite well, leaving the skin soft and hydrated post shave.
