Razor: ALE 9/8″ 1/2 hollow
Brush: Copper Hat 24mm 2 Band Fan Knot (Oumo)
Soap: Declaration Grooming Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli
Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli, Like Grandpa Wild Rose Balm
Today I wanted something bright and refreshing and this offering from Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux fit the bill. This scent is exactly as described, Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli. For me I get that bright up-front citrus punch from the Yuzu and the soft floral rose. The patchouli is subtle and kind of rounds things out. Scent strength on this is mid strong, a lot more present than I find a citrus soap typically is for me. I’m still not 100% sold on the scent but that goes for a lot of citrus scents for me.
This is the older Declaration Grooming bison base and I have no complaints. The cushion is excellent and the slickness (lathered and residual) are both fantastic. Post shave is excellent as well. This performs as well as any on the market. I may actually prefer this to their newer milksteak base. I’d say it is just a touch of a step down from that in terms of performance but I find it easier to work with. Simple load, add a bit of water and you have it dialed in with no effort at all.
I used the matching post shave aftershave from Chatillon Lux. I have had a few Chatillon Lux aftershave products in my den and while they all perform really well, the scents never seem to speak to me. Even this one, I’m on the fence about. No complains on the performance at all, skin is left feeling nice and hydrated.
I couldn’t just leave well enough alone there. With all the extra soap use these days, I figured why not really give the skin a treat today. I reached for my Like Grandpa Wild Rose balm. The scent fits in well with the rose of the soap/splash, although I like this wild rose scent a bit more than the traditional rose. The balm is a bit heavier (like a salve) but once it absorbs the skin is left very moisturised and repaired from any minor skin damage from the abuse it has been getting of late.
Had a great live shave today catching up with a few fine gents on CWS.
All for now, J
