Wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for today, it took several tub sniffs before I settled on this offering from Tallow + Steel. It wasn’t the scent that pulled me in today, rather the realisation that I have used this a few times and still haven’t done a post on it.
Classic Two is a re-release of a scent from the original Tallow + Steel lineup in their updated base. This is their take on a barbershop scent, inspired by (but smelling nothing like) Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Pour Homme. Scent notes are Bergamot (60%), Lavender (7.5%), Rosemary (7%), Guaiacwood (6.5%), Vetiver (5%), Patchouli (5%), Geranium (5%), Star Anise (4%) all done with essential oils. It is a nice blend but doesn’t read barbershop to me and certainly isn’t one of my favourite barbershop scents. I really get the Rosemary, Woodsy notes and Vetiver and that distinct essential oil blended style vibe that this emits. It is 100% Tallow + Steel DNA, very much in their wheelhouse.
Performance on the soap was great. One thing I like about Tallow + Steel is how easy it is to load and lather and just how well it performs. It took a lot of water today and the resulting lather was plenty slick with a really nice post shave.
Been a while since I used the Wade & Butcher so I gave it a go today. This thing is super smooth and combined with it being a near wedge, it almost feels like I’m not shaving. A slow and steady three pass shave with a resulting DFS.
I finished up with the matching splash. Tallow + Steel makes one of the best aftershave splashes in the business. This witch hazel based splash has a nice scent strength and your skin is left feeling comfortable and very hydrated. If you haven’t tried a Tallow + Steel product I highly recommend giving them a try.
All in all, not a big win scent wise but can’t argue with the results. All for now – J
