Friday off, time to myself, time to try something new. I decided to work on my straight technique but pulling on this Shavette I got as a bonus in an Aliexpress order. I dropped in a Gillette Nacet for it’s first journey. I figured since I was going shavette I would give it an old school barbershop vibe, so I paired with First Canadian Barbershop, Clubman Aftershave and Van Yulay Zephyrus balm (Clubman inspired). I really dig the First Canadian soap and I get a really nice lather with it, I kind of home it doesnt disappear in favour of this new formula. Plus I love the original branding on it. Simple and Sharp. I recently picked up the Clubman/Zephyrus combo as I think no shave den would be complete without this classic. I nice old school barber scent that I loved. I can see using this and pairing it a lot. I gave a new lather bowl a go as a test lather and it worked fantastic. It has an aggressive texture which should help with those stubborn soaps.
As for the shave itself…. it was rough. I did my first full shave with the shavette, start to finish. I still need a lot of practice (I’m told 30 shaves before you start to feel comfortable). I suffered a few stubborn knicks (brought out the styptic pencil even) and have a bit of irritation along with it. A small price to pay for the sake of education.
Looking forward to smoother shaves in the future. Happy Friday all!
