Wow, it seems like forever since I’ve done a shave of the day, and with good reason. I have been down and out with a heck of an illness. I’m finally starting to turn the corner, but unfortunately at the moment my sense of smell is still pretty off. Its getting better, only a few days ago the sense of smell was completely gone. (the Vicks vapor rub still made the eyes water, but I couldn’t smell it at all!) I have a bunch of new goodies waiting to try and I’ve been holding off until I can give them a proper go.
So today I opted for something simple, full on sandalwood. I was PIFed this soap from a CWS member I did a trade with. This is my first go with a Haslinger product. With the nose of commission I can’t really comment on the scent (the wife says it is subtle but very nice). It is a hard puck, which typically isn’t my thing, and packaging wise, it comes plastic wrapped which is also a bit of a pain for me. But once I found a container to put it in (I grated it into a tin I had) I was able to get over that pain point, and for a hard soap, this lathered really easily. A little moisture on the brush and a quick load gave me more than enough lather for a 3 pass shave. Performance wise it was really good, plenty slick and cushioning. Moisture wise, I’d heard it could be drying for some but with out cold prairie winter we are having, I can’t really be too harsh of a judge on that. I followed up with my Like Grandpa balm.
