Every once and a while I’m lucky enough to cross paths with unobtanium, a piece of history that is no longer made. This shag set popped up for sale on the Canadian Wet Shavers page and I couldn’t help myself. The scent profile called my name: Patchouli, Vetiver, Guaiacwood, Lavender, Cade, and Bergamot.
The scent of this instantly evokes images of riding in an old VW Microbus, decked out in plush shag carpet. It is smokey and earthy scent. Patchouli, Vetiver and Cade are the prominent notes. It isn’t a scent for everyone but it sure is for me. Scent strength is strong both off the puck and lathered. This is a previous incarnation of Tallow + Steel base but it still performs at a top level. Cushion, Slickness (lathered and residual) and Post Shave are all excellent. Everyone should have a Tallow + Steel in their den.
The aftershave was really nice as well. I’d say it is actually toned down a bit from the soap and doesn’t linger as long as I was expecting. Given the strength and scent profile, I think that is a good thing. This scent profile could overwhelm if it lingered too long. The skin food in this is very evident as my skin was left feeling very hydrated.
A fantastic addition to the den…. now I just need to get my hands on some Grog.
