Wow, seems like forever since I posted one of these. As I alluded to in my previous SOTD, things have been a bit busy behind the scenes. As you may notice, I was busy on the website and today I launched the new design with our updated look. I think I have all the bugs and kinks out, but if you notice something out of the ordinary don’t hesitate to drop me a line. And while I haven’t been posted SOTDs much, I did add a plethora of new items that I am excited to be highlighting here soon.
One of the new adds to the den was this offering from True North Shaving. The scent on this is straight up bubble gum, meant to take you back to days of playing video games in your youth. For some, Barrister & Mann’s Diamond offering is the baseball soap, but to me, this will always be the the soap that screams baseball. I’m instantly transported to opening up baseball cards from the corner store and that scent of powdery bubble gum that came with. And it wasn’t a baseball game growing up without a dip into a package of big league chew bubblegum. Scent on this is just on the lighter side of medium, perfect for the gourmand scent profile. I normally hate missing out on a matching post shave but this is an exception, no need to smell like bubble gum all day. Scent is purely for me during my shave time.
Performance on this base is OK. It loads and lathers easily enough and doesn’t need a tonne of water. Cushion lacks a bit and slickness (lathered and residual) are good, not great. It does the job with no issues. The fun scent made for a really fun shave. No complaints.
Picking a post shave was a big of a shot in the dark. What goes with bubble gum soap? I opted for Murray and Lanman Florida Water. To my nose this is quite a bit like cola with a bit of warm spice to it. It is marketed as a cologne but really it’s just a basic alcohol splash. Strength and longevity falls in line with that. Not a date night scent by any stretch but surely a fun youthful splash fitting with today’s shave.
