Razor: Bigelow & Dowse 5/8 / Merkur Progress on 4
Soap: Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber
Aftershave: Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber
Other: Macs Professional 3″ Strop
no #samplesaturday today. I just got a few strops back from a restore by a fellow CWS member (thanks Jason) and was itching to get started.I not have the strop, the hardware and the motivation to learn. I decided it best to not add a sample soap to the variables so I pulled this Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber set for the vintage vibe. Scent on this is fantastic. Powder with leather, smoke and gunpowder. My kind of scent. Lather was an easy build and performance was great.
The straight I started with today is a restored Bigelow & Dowse 5/8. I’m told the scales are Camel Bone. There is a crack that is visible but was repaired/stabilized as to keep these unique scales. My stropping technique needs a bit of work, I gave my strop a slight scar, but I made it by. Razor felt nice a smooth. As I work on technique I’m just starting with cheeks. I hit both sides, left hand and right. I did OK, bit myself once, but no real irritation. Not a bad attempt. I finished off with my other new den addition, the Merkur Progress. It is a two piece adjustable. Not the easiest to load/adjust and not the most comfortable in the hand, but I cant argue with the buttery smooth shave I got. A fantastic finish.
Practice, Practice, Practice….. but a great start. And now, since it is go topless day, off to take a ride in the Jeep. Happy weekend all!
