Today is Remembrance Day in Canada, a day we look back and remember those that put it all on the line to fight for freedom. For this reason, today I chose all vintage gear as a way to honour those that may very well have used this same setup. One of the things I cherish about this hobby so much is that it is a tie to the past, something that forever links us. I often think of my Grandfathers, what their experiences were like, what they may have used, what they would be like today. As fate would have it, I was mid-shave today at 11:11 and I took a moment to offer my silence, to think what it may have been like to get that call mid shave, to rush out to battle, possibly for the last time. For those, I am forever grateful. Today’s background was drawn by my son, and I’m proud to share this history lesson with him so he can continue to remember those that did so much for us.
Lest we forget.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
